Volunteer
Bondsville Mill Park is an all-volunteer operation with no paid staff. We welcome volunteers of all abilities. We need help with both building restoration and building stabilization. Our volunteer gardeners help in so many ways, from actually planting to the basics like clearing and mulching. Trail maintenance and perhaps adding a new creek-side trail are all done solely by volunteers. We welcome individuals, student groups, and scouts to help us preserve history and nature at this distinctive site.

AXA XL Global Giving Day - June 7, 2023
|
On June 7, 2023, a terrific group of volunteers from AXA XL came to help at the Mill. They planted, weeded, and mulched as part of AXA’s Global Day of Giving. The Mill was just one of the 25 community projects the company was supporting. The group worked in all three of our main gardens – Culp Clearing, the Race Walk and the Amphitheater. It turned out that several of our new friends are regular Mill visitors.
David Culp talked with them about the importance of native plant gardens during the lunch break and the importance of their participation with the Culp garden. “This garden is now yours. In the years to come as you visit with your families, you’ll be able to point with pride to this garden as something that you did,” he said. One of the volunteers’ tasks was to mulch the walls of the amphitheater. Thanks again to the generosity of AXA, pine straw mulch was purchased. While pine straw mulch offers the same advantages as other types of mulch it offers additional advantages, too. The needles weave together forming a stable mat that is hard to wash or blow away. They’ll stay on the amphitheater’s steep hillsides but still allow rain to soak through. |
